Restoring the façade of this historic structure was a mammoth undertaking.

The Riverside Avenue elevation received a major facelift with help from the National Park Service.

 

With the transformation nearly complete . . .

 

 . . . and the scaffolding gone . . .

 

. . . the public can begin to enjoy . . .

 

 . . . the elaborate architecture in its restored condition.

 

The sandstone was very heavy.

 

Many pieces had to be replaced.

 

The devil is in the details.

 

The original sand color is revealed.

 

Much of the work was tedious.
